Meet Me - Samiksh Sabikhi

Co-President, St. Olave's Junior Politics Society | Co-Organiser, St. Olave's Political Awareness Week | Team Manager at Phoenix

Hi, I'm Samiksh—a Year 10 student at St Olave’s Grammar School building at the intersection of civic engagement, practical engineering, and systems software.

Born in India with family roots in Amritsar, I grew up moving across London—from Canary Wharf and Camden to Barnet, before settling in Orpington for St Olave's. Living in so many distinct parts of the capital made me fall in love with London over the years—its history, energy, and civic culture—while sparking an early curiosity for how complex systems and communities operate.

That need to take an idea and build it into something real -  and an absolute obsession with Harry Potter (which I still have) - even led me to write and self-publish a mystery novel at age 11 (which is slightly embarrassing to look back on now, but stands as early proof of my obsession with taking projects from concept to completion), I still write from time to time now, finding it fun - but focus on other things.

Today, on the civic side, that drive translates directly into leading student political initiatives and fostering structured debate across the school. As Co-President of the St Olave's Junior Politics Society— we run weekly sessions focused on political literacy and current affairs for school students. I also act as Editor-in-Chief of our student-led Politics Journal. Beyond society meetings, I work as a Co-Organiser for Political Awareness Week—coordinating guest speaker outreach, discussions, and event timetables—and served on the organising committee for the Bromley Schools Climate Conference 2025 and 2026, helping draft delegate materials and facilitate inter-school workshops.

On the technical side, I lead our STEM Racing team, Phoenix, as Team Manager—steering enterprise strategy, sponsor outreach, competition portfolios, and team operations after previously serving as Chief Engineer. Through this work, our team has earned a top-10 national finish in the UK, engineered the fastest car on track at the National Finals, and secured 2 podium finishes.

Outside of school projects, I continually expand my technical capabilities through self-directed builds. This ranges from managing self-hosted server infrastructure using Proxmox and Linux environments to parametric CAD modeling in Fusion 360 for custom 3D-printed hardware solutions, fine-tuning high-performance PC builds, and integrating modern AI workflows into my personal projects.

Civic and Community Engagement

I am particularly interested in politics, current affairs and the role young people can play in public life. Through student-led initiatives, publications and events, I have worked to encourage political literacy, open discussion and greater engagement with the issues affecting society.

My work in this area has involved helping lead the Junior Politics Society, co-organising Political Awareness Week, and contributing to wider initiatives such as the Bromley Schools Climate Conference.

Junior Politics Society

As Co-President of the Junior Politics Society, I help shape student discussions and activities around politics and current affairs, while also acting as Editor-in-Chief to our student-led Politics Journal.

Political Awareness Week

I co-organise Political Awareness Week, helping coordinate an annual programme of speakers, debates and activities designed to broaden political engagement across the school.

Engineering and Technical

Alongside my civic interests, I spend much of my time exploring practical engineering and technology. I enjoy learning through experimentation and building, with projects ranging from CAD and 3D printing to self-hosted infrastructure, custom hardware and digital workflows.

I am also increasingly interested in how AI and automation can be integrated into everyday workflows to improve productivity, learning and problem-solving.

STEM Racing

As Team Manager of Phoenix, I focus primarily on the enterprise, outreach and strategic side of the team, bringing together my interests in engineering, leadership and project management. To learn more visit the Phoenix Website.

Private Projects

Outside of school and STEM Racing, I enjoy experimenting with technology independently, including 3D design and printing, home server infrastructure, hardware and emerging digital tools.

Beyond the Portfolio

Beyond the specific roles and projects documented on this site, I enjoy learning, reading, writing and taking on new challenges. Many of my projects begin simply because I become interested in a problem and want to understand how it works.

Whether through politics, engineering or technology, I am most interested in continuing to learn, build and contribute to the communities and projects around me.

My Books

While writing isn't my primary focus today, taking on independent projects early on shaped how I approach building things now. At age 11, heavily pushed on with my adoration of Harry Potter, I published two short books: The Mystery Mansion: Forbidden Archives—a fantasy story following a girl discovering her magical family—and The Ultimate Kids' Guide to the 11+, which compiled my own tips and experiences preparing for grammar school exams. Around the same time, I also wrote a third, unpublished sequel, The Mystery Mansion: The Amulet of Neprikidan (available here via PDF).

Re-reading them at 15 can certainly be a bit painful (as any 15-year-old can attest to when reading their writing at 11), but they remain an authentic snapshot of my early drive to take ideas from initial concept all the way to publication.
